The Devils Playground was a very interesting movie. Though I already have watched it sophomore year in Sociology, I was reminded about all of the neat things that I learned from that movie. The movie really taught me about the Amish ways of life and how they view the "English". I think it's weird that they consider all the other people that aren't Amish, English. They view the English as a more rebellious and less to earth. The Amish don't believe in cars, alcohol, modern day clothes and lots more. When the Amish children turn 16, they typically go through a phase where they leave the Amish community and experience life for themselves. They go out to party's frequently where they get to experience drugs and heavy amounts of alcohol. At the party's, they also experiment with more serious sexual relationships. They also wear modern day clothes, get jobs, and participate in driving. When they do this rebellious act against the Amish culture, their families usually stop talking to them because what they are doing is simply unacceptable to them.
I am glad we got to watch this movie because it showed us the real deal. They didn't try to make it seem harmless and carefree, they showed us what actually happens. I never would have guessed that the Amish people do this. I hope we get to watch more movies like this.
